Abstract
This chapter discusses the phenomena of light verbs in Mandarin Chinese, and how their properties may be responsible for a range of interesting syntactic differences between Mandarin Chinese and other languages. It discusses two proposals that employ light verb syntax along the lines of J Lin. The chapter also discusses some alternative views on light verbs in Mandarin Chinese and the theories put forward in L Shen, C T James Huang and Lin.
