Abstract
In an e-Learning environment, the unique features of Web technology have driven great changes in teaching and learning. The main advantage of e-Learning lies in its breakthrough of the limits of time and space. However, there is also a lower level of teacher supervision, and students are required to learn more actively and be responsible for their learning effectiveness. This research introduces two effective Web-based formative assessment modules in the Web-based Assessment and Test Analysis system (WATA system), named Formative Assessment Module (FAM-WATA) and Game Assessment Module (GAMWATA). There are six effective Web-based formative assessment strategies in FAM-WATA. As to GAM-WATA, it includes a unique strategy, "Ask-Hint Strategy." Both FAM-WATA and GAM-WATA aim to help teachers construct an assessment-centered learning environment and to enable students to obtain more feedback when taking a Web-based formative assessment. GAM-WATA further turns a Web-based formative assessment into an online quiz game. It is expected that this design can encourage students to perform selfassessment spontaneously. In addition to introducing FAM-WATA and GAM-WATA, this research also integrates these two systems into an e-Learning environment and explores the effectiveness of their strategy designs. © 2008 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
