Abstract

3D cell culture Combinational drug screening Minimal sample Chemical Engineering (miscellaneous) Bioengineering
Combinational drug treatment has the potential of improving treatment efficacy, reducing side effects and minimizing resistance. In this work, we present a device for performing combinatorial drug screening on 3D-cultured cells in a microfluidic portable device which has the potential to be used for testing drug response of cancer patients for personalized medicine. The device utilizes a normally closed pneumatic valve system to operate an array of 8 x 8 individual drug testing chambers. This allows for easy generation of mimicking cell culture conditions for screening potential combinatorial drugs at reduced cost and minimal sample consumption.
