Abstract
This paper presents a multi-band orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) based ultra-wideband (UWB) baseband inner transceiver. Design challenges arise from the requirements for high data rates, low power consumption, and low cost. The proposed UWB transceiver utilizes both pipelined and parallel structures to reduce the critical path and increase the system throughput. Implemented by TSMC 0.18 technology, the design supports 528-Msample/s throughput and 480-Mbps data rate, and consumes power less than 500 mW at 132-MHz clock rate. The whole system is designed, evaluated, and verified by the SystemC and Verilog-HDL languages through simulations. Multi-path fading, including CM1, CM2, CM3, and CM4 channel models, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), and up to ±40 ppm carrier frequency offset (CFO) and sampling frequency offset (SFO) are considered in both floating-point (FLP) and fixed-point (FXP) simulations to evaluate the system performance. © 2008 IEEE.
