Abstract
This paper presents an alternative filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC) system based on the discrete Hartley transform (DHT) using space-time block coding (STBC), rather than based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) using STBC. In addition to space-time diversity, there is some distinct frequency diversity between any two mirror-symmetrical subcarriers in the system, and joint data detection can be performed for each pair of them to exploit all the diversity gains. At the receiver, simplified full-tap per-two-tone equalization instead of the conventional single-tap per-tone equalization is combined with STBC detection to recover the transmitted signal according to the minimum mean-squared error criterion. As compared with an existing DFT-FBMC system using STBC, the DHT-FBMC system using STBC achieves better BER performance with similar complexity.
