Abstract
This paper presents the planning for the teaching program for broadband networks of the National Innovative Communication Education Program (NICE-Program) of Taiwan. The teaching enhancement program focuses on establishing the teaching partnerships among universities in Taiwan to develop outstanding teaching materials for advanced courses in the broadband networks. The infrastructure of our teaching partnerships among universities will be presented and the courseware to be developed will also be introduced. Five most important categories of broadband Internet to Taiwan industrial are selected, namely, high-speed network switching, broadband Internet access, network security, embedded system, and next generation Internet protocol (Ipv6). This is a four-year project, and the development of courseware, including textbooks and teaching materials (such as multimedia interactive video) has been launched at the beginning of year 2003. In addition to developing the courseware, several activities are arranged to extend the program so that more universities can share the developed courseware. These activities include the arrangement of promotion courses to cultivate teachers from universities nationwide, collaborate with industry to develop courseware according to the trend and requirements of industry, arrange short-term courses for professionals from industry, international students/professors exchange programs. Finally, this program will be evaluated annually by the MOE to measure the effectiveness of the executed activities.
