Abstract
In CDMA mobile communication systems, the frequency reuse factor is equal to one and the soft handoff with combining macroscopic diversity technology was introduced to enhance the link performance. In this work, two novel diversity combining schemes for soft handoff are proposed. In the proposed Scheme A, the information symbols for the MS are equally separated into different channels from different BSs to the MS and each channel carrier a disjointed set of the information symbols; while in Scheme B, we combine coding and soft handoff to improvement the system performance. Via computer simulations, the performance of Scheme B is found to outperform conventional maximal ratio combining scheme and provides a 1dB improvement in bit energy-to-noise power density ratio. © 2004 IEEE.
