Abstract
We present a simple pumpless microfluidics design to pair 3D artificial liver tissue. This design concept could pair two or more 3D spheroids with green approach for investigating artificial tissue cell-cell interaction. All the operation process, HepG2 cells spheroid formation and pairing, is accomplished on this chip within two days. The gravity force is applied to drive the 250μm diameter liver spheroid moving and no external power is required. Avoiding the hydrodynamic pressure damage for the assembled HepG2 cells caused by syringe pump is its unique advantage. This mimetic liver labchip is developed to hepatotoxicity assay with 3D liver tissue in the future. Copyright © (2011) by the Chemical and Biological Microsystems Society.
