Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are lethal diseases with an incidence of 17.9 million patients annually. There are four important biomarkers used in the clinical tests to monitor CVDs. This study presents an integrated, self-driven microfluidic system by using specific-aptamers surface-coated on interdigitated electrodes (IDE) to quantify these biomarkers. Integrated microfluidic modules could achieve sample pre-treatment and liquid manipulation. The IDE biosensors could measure the concentrations of these four biomarkers and then wirelessly transmit them to cellphones. Experimental results showed that this developed system can serve as a promising portable tool for CVDs risk assessment.
