Abstract
This research attempts to investigate the potential of parallel dynamics algorithms and parallel transient finite element solution procedure to significantly improve the capability for non-linear dynamics such as the crash analysis of automotive vehicles and offshore structural analysis, etc. Research focus is on the parallel dynamic time integration methods, general purpose parallel algorithms and parallel transient finite element analysis solution procedures. These ideas are incorporated in a prototype dynamic/static finite element system GTPASDA (Georgia Tech PArallel Structural Dynamic Analysis, (Chiang, 1989)) and a production quality nonlinear finite element system FENRIS/GP 1 (Finite Element NonlineaR Integration System/Georgia Tech Parallel Version, (Chiang, 1989)). The parallel transient finite element solution procedures are tested on two significantly different finite element systems which use different dynamics algorithms, memory arrangement, and coordinate systems, etc. It is believed that these approaches are well suited for transient finite element analyses using parallel computers.
