Abstract
In ATM networks, using coding matrix technique to compensate consecutive cell loss caused by buffer overflow is widely discussed recently. This technique do much reduce the cell loss probability. In this paper, we further explore the potential of the coding matrix technique to solve the unfairness problem of cell loss, which takes place in multiplexing or switching units when carrying heterogeneous traffics. A synchronization algorithm to maintain the delineation process of coding matrices is also presented, together with an exact performance analysis.
