Abstract
In this paper, we present a block decision feedback equalizer (DFE) with both feedforward filtering and feedback filtering. It is a modified version of the block DFE proposed by Williamson et al. that uses only feedback filtering but no feedforward filtering. Mathematical analysis based on an FIR channel shows that the modified design can reduce more power of intersymbol interference and noise than the original one if the feedback filter's length is greater than or equal to the channel length. Computer simulations are employed to support that the proposed block DFE with feedforward filtering has better error rate performance than the existing block DFE without feedforward filtering.
