Abstract
This paper presents analysis, design and practical consideration of a 500 W power factor corrector (PFC) with soft switching feature. The boost PFC's with different soft switching cells, which are boost, flyback and forward soft switching cells, are discussed. The operating principle and performance characteristics of the PFC's are presented in detail, from which the one with boost-flyback converter configuration is designed and implemented. Hardware measurements have been taken to verify the theoretical discussion. The presented material provides designers a good reference in choosing a proper PFC configuration.
