Abstract

This paper proposes a blind multiuser equalization algorithm (BMEA) for multi-rate (variable processing gain or multi-code) DS/CDMA systems in multipath which is an extension of the single-rate BMEA using cumulant based inverse filter criteria (IFC) proposed by Chi et al. by converting real multi-rate users into single-rate (i.e., same spreading factor) virtual users. The proposed multi-rate BMEA also share the merit of super-exponential convergence rate of Chi et al.'s single-rate BMEA. Furthermore, the proposed multi-rate BMEA in conjunction with Chi et al.'s blind maximum ratio combining (BMRC) algorithm, called multi-rate BMEA-BMRC algorithm, is proposed for the DS/CDMA system with multiple receive antennas. Finally, some simulation results are presented to support the efficacy of the proposed multi-rate BMEA and multi-rate BMEA-BMRC algorithm. © 2004 IEEE.
