Abstract

Frequency and amplitude stabilization of commercially available internal mirror He-Ne lasers is of interest for many interferometric measurements in scientific laboratories and industries. A number of schemes have been devised and reported in the literature. Lasers oscillating in two modes can be frequency stablized by balancing the output power of the two modes, the polarizations of which are mutually perpendicular. Recently Sasaki has described a method in which the total back beam intensity of the laser was monitored and a feedback signal applied either to a fan or heater which controls the laser tube length. We have studied both schemes as well as a variant of Sasaki's method in which only the output power of a single beam is used as the feedback signal. Only summary is given.
