Abstract
CoSb3 is a promising thermoelectric compound with a skutterudite structure. It has been reported that introduction of indium into this compound can enhance its thermoelectric properties. Ternary Co-Sb-In alloys with compositions along the CoSb3-InSb isoplethal section are prepared, annealed at 850, 650, and 450oC, for predetermined lengths of reaction time, then quenched, and their equilibrated phases are determined. The phase transformation temperatures of these Co-Sb-In alloys are determined by differential thermal analysis. The CoSb3-InSb isoplethal section of the Co-Sb-In phase diagram is determined based on the experimental results determined in this study, and the phase diagrams of the constituent binary systems. The phase regions on this isoplethal section are liquid, liquid+CoSb, liquid+CoSb+CoSb2, liquid+CoSb2, liquid+CoSb2+CoSb3, liquid +CoSb3, and InSb+CoSb3.
