Abstract
The white color shift is caused by the change of the dn in larger oblique angle where d is the thickness of the liquid crystal (LC) layer and Δn is the birefringence. When the oblique angle is larger in the direction parallel to the long axis of the LCs, dΔn is smaller while the color changes from white to blue. On the other hand, when the oblique angle is larger in the direction parallel to the short axis of the LCs, dΔn is larger while the color shifts from white to yellow. Therefore, the multidomain structure which has more than two domains with opposite directions of LCs, would reduce the color shift because the overall change of the dΔn in the pixel becomes very small upon averaging the increase and the decrease of the dΔn.
