Abstract

Electronic pedigree Epc network Pharmaceutical industry Radio frequency identification (RFID) Supply chain management (SCM)
Counterfeit drug problem causes a great attention recently. It not only leads to compromises of patient safety, but also causes economic loss to drug manufacturers, and a threat to the national security (Robin Koh, 2003). Nowadays, pharmaceutical detection mostly relies on handy inspection by pharmacist. However, it is costly and remains uncertain. Therefore, this study tends to establish a safer and securer pharmaceutical supply chain with electronic pedigree. This paper consists of four sections. First, we illustrate the importance to build-up a electronic pedigree for pharmaceutical supply chain. Next, the standard of EPC Network and electronic pedigree would be introduced in the next section. Third, we develop the application model and illustrate the operation of the EPC Network by this model. The benefit of adopting electronic pedigree is also mentioned in this section. Finally, this paper exhibits the information technology to develop the EPC Network for pharmaceutical supply chain.
