In this study, we demonstrated a novel simple preparation process of the patterned polymer-grafted glass surfaces using electron beam (EB) lithography system without any photo-masks. N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) was locally polymerized and directly grafted onto surfaces only by single step of EB lithography. On these surfaces, cells adhered and spread with an orientation in accordance with the stripe pattern direction. When temperature decreased to 25°C, the cultured cells were detached from the surfaces and shrunken along the stripe pattern direction.
