Abstract
Hydrogen peroxide is a basic chemical having a wide variety of applications. It is currently produced by an indirect process. Many efforts have been devoted to commercialize the direct synthetic process from hydrogen and oxygen, which has been challenged by a difficulty in handling an explosive gas mixture with an ignitable catalyst. Here we show that glass microfabricated reactors were quite useful in producing hydrogen peroxide safely and effectively by the direct process, so that more than 10 wt% of aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution was produced. Proper reactor designs (for multiphase reaction from single channel to paralleled channels) as well as a catalyst development were necessary to achieve the productivity.
