Abstract
The domain structures of as-deposited Co thin films on Cu(100) and Cu(110) surfaces are investigated by means of photoemission electron microscope. Employing the X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, we examined the domain structures of 5ML Co film depositing on two copper surfaces and found distinct differences between these two systems. On the Co/Cu(100), wefound the magnetic domains are basically in an elongated shape with their long axis orientated along <011> axis. For theCo/Cu(110), the magnetic domains exhibit significantly larger dimension than those observed on the Cu(100) surface. When thesame thin film systems were patterned into 80 x 80 μm2 squares, the domains of continuous film transform further into another configurations.
