In this study, an integrated portable device for bacterial diagnosis utilizing a new dual-aptamer assay has been presented. The signals could be induced by a light-emitting diode and quantified with a photodiode, which may carry out a quantitative diagnosis of bacteria with high sensitivity and specificity. The entire procedure could be performed on an electromagnetic microfluidic chip with a combination of permanent magnets and electromagnets. This is the first time that an automatic point-of-care device was demonstrated which could perform a dual-aptamer assay to diagnose bacteria by using electromagnetically-driven micropumps and micromixers.
