Arch Foot dimension Footwear Gender difference
The objective of this study was to use 3D scanning data to evaluate gender and foot size differences in arch dimensions. 150 males and 150 females were recruited in this study. Six arch dimensions including arch length, arch depth, arch height, distance of navicular (%FL), distance of metatarsal tibiale (%FL) and distance of the most medial point of medial border line (%FL) were used to determine the arch shape and position. Results showed that the gender difference was significant in arch length, arch height, distance of navicular (%FL) and distance of the most medial point of medial border line (%FL), except for arch depth and distance of metatarsal tibiale (%FL). In addition, arch length would increase with foot size for both genders, but arch depth would decrease with foot size only for males. Therefore, designing insoles based on arch dimensions for males and females separately is necessary. © 2012 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
