Abstract

Electronic Optical and Magnetic Materials Electrical and Electronic Engineering
An experimental demonstration of a fast simultaneous wavelength and time switch using an integrated passive wavelength router, fast active optical space switches, and a nonlinear optical loop mirror, is reported. Both packet switching and isolated-bit extraction are demonstrated. Several isolated bits at arbitrary positions are extracted from the above packets. The output bits have a high extinction ratio, uniform amplitude, and low jitter. Two pulses on different wavelengths, spaced by 0.8 ns have been successfully extracted exhibit low noise and low jitter. The transient shows that wavelength switching does not limit the guard interval between bits to more than 1 ns.
