Abstract

Gradient Microdroplet Nanotopographic Self-directed transport
This paper demonstrates fast self-directed transport of droplets based on radially patterned quasi-networked silicone nanofiber surfaces using vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) irradiation to induce a strong wettability gradient (advancing and receding contact angle difference as large as 1557deg;) within a short length scale. A 1 μL droplet was employed to demonstrate this idea. The maximum velocity recorded was 45 cm/s when the quasi-networked nanofiber surface was exposed for 3 min 30s. © 2008 CBMS.
