Abstract

In this paper, we present the techniques to improve the reliability of a parallel connected power system under central-limit control (CLC) incorporated with maximum current limit (MCL). The proposed schemes can uniformly distribute the output current among nonidentical converter modules (CM) as well as identify the defective ones, and take the appropriate action to ensure the normal operation of the system. In addition, unlike the conventional approach in which the CMs connected in parallel are active under all load conditions, the control techniques used are able to determine the required number of active converters for any load condition. As a consequence, the degree of redundancy increases significantly and the overall system reliability, availability and performance are also improved.
