Abstract

capacitive sensor flexible polydimethylsiloxane porosity silicone Electrical and Electronic Engineering Electronic Optical and Magnetic Materials Instrumentation
In this work, we report a novel roll-To-roll, high temperature vulcanized silicone-based composite substrate that addresses the issue of low surface energy of silicone, making the proposed substrate suitable for flexible, printed, and hybrid electronics. We illustrate a potential application with a capacitive pressure sensor that contained different porosities in the dielectric sandwiched by the composite substrates. By utilizing de-ionized water in dielectric mixture (10% to 30%), adjustable detection sensitivity between 5.3 kPa-1 to 6.6 kPa-1 was realized. In addition, the sensor exhibited a large dynamic window between 0-80 kPa with a resolution of 0.05 kPa. Real-Time demonstrations were also performed to assure its applicable response time. The production of the substrate was environmentally sustainable and supports circular economy.
