Abstract

High-Throughput Microfluidic Device Sperm Sorting Chemical Engineering (miscellaneous) Bioengineering Chemistry (all) Control and Systems Engineering
Recently, sperm sorting by microfluidic chips shows an promising efficiency. Traditional devices are designed to collect top-tier sperms which swim in upstream. The collected sperm numbers and total volume are 1~10*10 5 sperm cells and 1~10 μL, respectively, which is good for mankind IVF. However, for pig's artificial insemination, it requires 2*10 9 sperm cells and 200ml semen volume. Therefore, a high-throughput microfluidic device is proposed. The concept of this design is to sweep-out the weak sperms from a chamber, and we could collect 5*10 7 motile sperm cells (80% motility) with total volume of 1 ml within 45 minutes.
