Abstract

Microfluidic device Rheotaxis Sorting sperm Chemical Engineering (miscellaneous) Bioengineering Chemistry (all) Control and Systems Engineering
Many sperm sorting microfluidic devices can't accommodate semen samples above 10 µl because the micro-scale fluidic channel and separation method limits the capability of high volume semen sorting in the devices. This paper proposes a high volume (~100 µl) sperm sorting method via a flat rheotaxis microfluidic device. The result suggests sperm motility can reach about 90% in 10 mins. By repeating the operation of the device for multiple times, 1 ml semen sample can be completed in 1.5 hour, beneficial for patients with low sperm concentration.
