Abstract
This paper proposes the integration of a sperm sorting technique and oocyte zona pellucida (ZP) removal process into one microfluidic chip for in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The chip can replace the traditional sperm sorting method and manual oocyte ZP-removal technology by employing automatic microfluidic processes. The experiment results show that high quality sperms can be selected through the chip, and the whole process including sperm selection, oocyte ZP removal, and the pairing of the selected sperm and oocyte. The fertilization rate is demonstrated up to 61.7%, much superior than most cases in traditional IVF technology which are usually less than 30%.
