Abstract
This study implements a novel Drosophila (fruit fly) behavior chip by Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) technology. This behavior chip has three merits: (1) The array structure enables multi-positions detection and arbitrary definition of stimulation area. Thus provide more flexibility on experiment design. (2) Position detection and electric shock could be performed without the need of extra-sensing/stimulating unit or light source. (3) This behavior chip could be batch fabricated by MEMS technology. In-vivo experiments were performed to demonstrate the sensing and stimulating ability the behavior chip. The fabricated position sensor could successfully sense the position of Drosophila. Moreover, the fabricated punisher could deliver electric shock to control the Drosophila distribution on chip. © 2011 IEEE.
