Abstract
In this paper, a light emitting diode (LED) backlight driving system for liquid crystal display (LCD) panels with color sequential display (CSD) and area control is proposed. Due to improvement on luminous efficacy, fast response and wide color gamut, LED has gradually substituted for cold cathode fluorescent lamp as backlight. The proposed driving system adopts CSD to improve light utilization efficiency and reduce power consumption by removing color filter. In addition, power consumption can be further reduced and dark-bright contrast ratio can be improved by adopting area control. In the proposed system, a single-stage converter is adopted to drive the LED backlight, reducing the volume and cost.
