Abstract
We present the results of Chandra observations of globular cluster (GC) X-ray sources in several galaxies including M31 NGC 4472 M87 and M104. Among some 30 GC X-ray sources detected in our M31 observations 2-3 have luminosities in excess of 1e38 erg/s. The X-ray luminosity function of X-ray GCs is different from that of other point sources. We also report on the X-ray source in the optically luminous GC G1. During two XMM-Newton observations taken in 2001 January and 2003 February the source intensity varies by at least a factor of 2. For NGC 4472 M87 and M104 we identify a total of 211 55 and 122 X-ray sources respectively. Of the X-ray sources in NGC 4472 we find almost 40 significant associations with GCs while there are at least 3 X-ray GCs near the center of M87 and M104. We also identify 25 3 and 22 supersoft source candidates in NGC 4472 M87 and M104; a few of them are associated with GCs.
