Abstract

Artificial mesh Deformation Digital image correlation Implanting Mechanical properties
In recent years, artificial mesh has been widely used in medical applications, in particular, the repair of pelvic organ prolapse. However, not only before but also after implanting, the mechanical properties of the artificial mesh have not been well investigated. In the past, because of the rather special structure of the artificial mesh, experimental measurement cannot be easily performed. In this paper, both the tensile test and three-dimensional digital image correlation (DIC) method were employed to determine the deformation and mechanical properties of the artificial mesh before implanting. ©2009 Society for Experimental Mechanics Inc.
