The role of surface-immobilized RGD and PHSRN domain mobility and/or interpositional rigidity in modulating the macrophage behavior was discussed. MPEG-Ac 454 or 2K was used to reduce non-specific cell adhesion as well as to limit the mobility of surface linked peptides. The non-adhesiveness of the substrates was tested by fibroblast adhesion assay. The purity of MPEG-Ac 2K approximated 98% and the yield was approximately 90%. PEG-Ac resulted with a conversion ratio approximating 80% and a yield approximating 15%.
