Abstract

Diabetes mellitus may cause serious complications, including arteriosclerosis, heart disease and kidney failure, and therefore requires routine monitoring. Increasing evidences show that the concentration of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) can be utilized as a more reliable index for diagnosing and monitoring diabetes. In this study, we presented a new approach using HbA1c-specific aptamers as recognition molecules due to its high affinity and specificity. Moreover, a compact, grating-based surface plasmon resonance sensor incorporated with a microfluidic system was proposed to implement a compact, non-contact optical detection scheme for measuring HbA1c. © 14CBMS.
