Abstract

Interaction
Cognitive organizers that organize knowledge in a network of nodes and links within a learner's cognitive structure have been shown to be a useful tool for promoting both the quantity and the quality of learning. To help students to process primary sources in order to develop second-order concepts of history, this project has been designed to develop an interactive mapping system which is based upon high school textbooks; the system organizes relevant historical source materials from a digital archive. With features like concept grouping, online practice activities, and an interactive timeline, this web-based mapping system creates an interactive sources-based learning environment to help learners to learn the structure, causal relations, and chronology of historical events. It also helps learners to empathize with their historical topics of study.
