Abstract
Considers an automatic storage and retrieval system (AS/FS) comprises two storage carousel conveyors and a retrieval apparatus integrated by computers. The order picking problem for such a two-carousel-single-server system is presented. The authors analyze the retrieval time and propose four heuristic algorithms for the scheduling sequence of retrieving items from the system to satisfy an order requirement. The analytical results can be applied directly for the scheduling of an automated warehousing system
