Abstract

Mechanical energy Ordered structure Polymer Solvent
Ordered structure pattern on polymeric surface has been investigated. Polymer sample is immersed in solvent maintained at constant temperature for a certain period, removed from solvent bath for desorption, and then reimmersed again. The ordered structure pattern appears on the sample surface after re-desorption. This surface pattern can be determined by chemical stresses. Chemical stresses are developed in polymer during sorption and desorption. The ordered surface pattern appears when the total mechanical energy is negative. Based on this criteria, we derived the wavelength of surface pattern as a function of sorption and desorption periods and specimen thickness. The experimental data are in good agreement with the predicted model.
