Abstract
The domain structures of magnetic multilayer systems were studied by the photoemission electron microscope. Employing an in-situ mask in front of the Cu substrate, we are able to prepare continuous and patterned films on the same substratesimultaneously through partially covering the substrate with an 80x 80 μm gold mesh. For the Cu/Co/Cu trilayerss, we foundcapping additional Cu layer reduces the magnetic contrast of Co layer in both continuous and patterned film. For the Mn/Co/Cutrilayerss, we found weak ferromagnetic ordering in the Mn layer and evidence of Mn-Co alloy formation.
