Abstract

Computer Networks and Communications Electrical and Electronic Engineering
In this paper, the performance of a hybrid medium access protocol in IEEE 802.15.3 has been studied. An analytical model has been developed for the coordination between the contention access period (CAP) and the contention-free channel time allocation period (CTAP). Given the traffic characteristic and the number of contending devices, the piconet coordinator (PNC) determines the duration of the CAP. Based on the successfully received requests and the scheduling scheme, the PNC decides the duration of the CTAP. Extensive simulations are performed to validate our analysis. © 2007 IEEE.
