Abstract
In this paper, we designed and fabricated a polymer-based bendable direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) for wearable applications. This device consisted of Nafion membrane coated with Pt catalyst, gold current collector, polymer-based micro channels for fuel and gas diffusion, and liquid feed through. For better bendability and durability, the Au layer is chemically bond on polymer surface by the interface of thiol-silane. Different designs were tested by cyclic voltammetry (CV) to optimize the activation performance. The single cell test indicated the PMMA-based DMFC can provide 1.6mW/cm at room temperature.
