Abstract
The focus of logistics management for modern war has shifted from conventional operations to automatic, quick response, and precise operations. However, recent development of decreasing military budget and lean personnel organization significantly affect the logistics operations in our army. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) enabled the logistics system of US Army to perform efficiently during Iraq Wars and was one of the key factors for the victory. Benefits of the application of RFID to logistics management include less personnel cost, higher precision, and shorter operation time. Furthermore, RFID helps to improve current deficiencies in managing supply of spare parts. In this study, we first built conceptual framework through literature review and identified 35 major variables in the application of RFID system from interviews with several experts. Sampling survey was carried out by questionnaires based on these 35 variables and data were analyzed through the SPSS software. Key success factors for application RFID technology on spare part management system are 1) clear objectives and leaders’ commitment, 2) members’ participation and effective incentive system, 3) project management and standard operation procedure, 4) sufficient budget allocation and integration with information technology, and 5) effective training and interacting with professional consultants.
