Abstract

Alginate Co-shelled tube Podocyte Tissue Engineering Chemical Engineering (miscellaneous) Bioengineering
In this research, we demonstrate successful glomerular cells cultivation inside co-shelled gelatin/alginate tubes cured by strontium ions rather than calcium ions to reduce the ion interference on cell proliferation and differentiation. Podocytes were seeded in the inner core of gelatin while forming the co-shell structures with alginate tube, and the cells were successfully attached on the inner side of the alginate channel and formed tubular structures after 7 days cultivation. The reconstructed glomerular tube will be used as an in-vitro model for drug testing, and also the first step toward re-establishing a fully functional artificial glomerular.
