In this research, preparation and physicochemical characterization of sugarcane bagasse-immobilized Bacillus cereus has been conducted. The immobilization of bacterial strain was performed by dispersing isolated bacteria into dried sugarcane bagasse followed by incubation procedure. The physicochemical characterization of material was performed by SEM, TEM, and gas surface analysis. The capability of material to remove phenol in solution via biodegradation was also tested. The results showed that there is no significant change of physicochemical features of porous structure of the sugarcane bagasse. The pore size of the material is within the microporous range, and the bacteria aggregation is identified by the pore size distribution, in conjunction with the TEM images comparison. The material exhibits the capability for 100 % phenol removal, suggesting the potency to be functional biomaterial for environmental remediation.
