Abstract
Recent advances in AI provide a unique opportunity to reshapemental health care systems and practices. However, there remainsconsiderable skepticism that AI will positively impact the futures ofpatients, workers, and technologies. An interdisciplinary approachtoward design and development of human-centered AI is necessary,yet discussions about the future of mental health work are oftenstratified by discipline (e.g., clinical vs. HCI research) or mentalhealth domain (i.e., PTSD, depression, etc.). With this panel, wewill bring together HCI, AI, organizational, and clinical researchersand practitioners to focus on the future of patients, workers, andAI-based technology in mental health care. We will discuss currentchallenges associated with mental health care AI across diverseclinical domains. This panel aims to move toward common groundfor the future of human-centered AI in mental health work amongthose spanning perspectives from technoskepticism to justifiedcaution.
