Abstract

Energy Engineering and Power Technology Nuclear Energy and Engineering
In this study, the safety analysis of the Kuosheng NPP(nuclear power plant) spent fuel pool was performed by using TRACE and FRAPTRAN, which assumed the cooling system of the spent fuel pool failed. The sensitivity studies of initial time of fire water spray were analyzed by TRACE. There were three cases considered. The differences between this cases were the started point of water spray. The spray started while the water level reaching Top of Active Fuel (TAF) in case A. The spray starting point was 2/3 fuel rod length for case B and no water spray for case C. Use TRACE analysis result as boundary condition for FRAPTRAN-2.0 to calculate the fuel performance The FRAPTRAN-2.0 results showed that the cladding performance remain in a safe region for case A and case B. However, the results indicate that cladding failure occurs in about 4 days for case C.
