Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the situations of growth about students aged 9-18 in Taiwan. Method: A total 1,813,720 students participated in this study. Height, weight and body mass index (BMI) were measured as the indicators for growth. Variables were gender and age. The results of investigation were painted to the growth curves and compared with the standard which was contributed in 10 years before (1999). Results: according to the curves, boys had one significant period for height and weight changed in aged 10-14. Girls had two significant periods for height and weight. The first stage with height and weight were aged 10-12, but the second stage for height was aged 12-13, and it could be continued with weight until aged 15. Compared with the standard of 1999, the averages of height and weight with lowest 10% had been promoted both in boys and girls. But no matter what gender, the total average of height was raised (p<.05) before aged 16, and the weight was dropped (p<.05) within parts of ages. Conclusion: Base on the BMI, the situations of growth of students in Taiwan had been promoted, especially to the weakness groups. It seems there was a regression effect which been existed.
