Abstract
Reed-Solomon (RS) code is a well-known error-correcting code for its robust capability of correcting burst errors introduced into transmitted (or stored) information. Recently some RS-COde Decoder/EnCoder (CODEC) chips which combine encoder and decoder functions have been reported (see, e.g., [1,2]), and most of them use the Euclidean algorithm or its variant as the decoding algorithm. Some of them take encoding as a special case of decoding.
