Abstract

Mobile IP Mobile networks Movable networks Route optimization
A local area network in a vehicle can provide Internet access to users with portable devices. Such a network, called a movable network, is mobile. As widely anticipated, the movable network will be extensively adopted in the near future rather than the exception that it is now. Movable network support will be a requirement of network architecture for future mobile communication systems. This work presents an efficient approach, Vehicle IP, to providing network mobility, which involves efficiently handling the mobility of the whole movable network and that of the mobile host. The principles, design and evaluation of Vehicle IP are also addressed.
